It is no secret that last names in the Indo-Caribbean, Indo-Fijian, Indo-Mauritian, and South African Indian communities tend to be very different from South Asian counterparts. Due to colonial mispellings, anglicisation, inheritance laws, and poor record keeping; our broken names reflect the sometimes frustrating inconsistencies of our heritage.
